Venezuela!

Hugo has been the president of Venezuela since 1999. The next election will be held in December of this upcoming year. (2012)

The largest city is Caracas, located in northern Venezuela. It is not only the largest city but also the capital.

Population is 28.1 million. (2008) The majority of the population takes place in the north.

Towards the middle of the country are the llanos. The llanos are the plans that reach from the western Colombian border to the eastern Orinoco river delta.

The Orinoco River brings together the largest river system.

Two of the other major rivers are the Apure and the Caroni.

In eastern Venezuela is the world’s largest waterfall, Angels Falls. Angels Falls is 3,212 feet high and has a drop of 2,648 feet.

Venezuela borders: Colombia, Guyana, Brazil, and the Caribbean Islands.

The language they speak is Spanish.

Roman Catholic is the main religion.

Most important natural resources are: natural gas, petroleum, iron ore, gold aluminum, steel, chemical products, and others.

Life expectancy is normally 71 for men, and 77 for women.

The most popular meat dishes in Venezuela are fried. Normally beef and chicken are the preferred meat. There’s a huge variety of fish which are: trout, red snapper, dorado, parrot fish, catfish, and cazon. (cazon is baby shark)

One of Venezuela’s most popular dishes is the Pabellón Criollo which consists of shredded beef, black beans, and cheese, served with fried plantain and rice.

The traditional Christmas meal is made from chopped up beef, pork, and chicken, with green peppers, onion, garlic, tomatoes, raisins, olives, and various spices and herbs. All mixed up together in maize dough, then wrapped in banana leaves and steamed, known as Hallaca.

Coffee is the most common hot beverage and it is produced in Venezuela.

A few of the other popular beverages are: fresh juices, sugar cane juice with lemon, fresh coconut milk, beer, rum with coke.
